Things to do in Noble County

Noble County Indiana

The Noble County Convention & Visitors Bureau welcomes Great Indiana Golf guests! We encourage you to explore the uniqueness of our outdoor recreation resources, nature trails, museums, an authentic perfumery, an exotic animal sanctuary, and the home of the famous author and naturalist Gene Stratton-Porter.

Start your stay with a visit to the tourism bureau in Albion The bureau is the county’s welcome center and a terrific source for visitor information.

History buffs can take a road trip down the 1913 route of the Lincoln Highway, the first transcontinental highway to be built in the United States. This heritage highway, now U.S. 33, stretches from Wolf Lake to Ligonier in western Noble County and was named an Indiana Scenic Byway in 2012. Along the way, tour the 33 historic murals in downtown Ligonier or create your own fragrance at Annie Oakley Perfumery in Ligonier. Stop for lunch at the 1860 Kimmell House Inn or Fashion Farm, a multi-generational family farm with a restaurant, greenhouses, and a floral and gift shop.

The Tombstone Trail beckons history lovers to learn about local history through the lives of the people who shaped the region. Tombstone Trail offers self-guided walking tours of several historic cemeteries with a Bicentennial Legacy guide book published by the tourism bureau. The guidebook shares the life stories of the historic figures who rest there and includes accurate maps to each gravesite. Contact the bureau for information about group tours for 10 or more people.

Noble County embraces its agricultural heritage with orchards, wineries, and breweries. These growers produce apples and other fruit, organic produce, wine, craft beer, maple syrup, lavender, and bison meat.

Our best environmental attractions are at your fingertips! Chain O’Lakes State Park offers camping, swimming, and miles of hiking trails in its glacially formed landscape. You can canoe or kayak 13 lakes, nine of which are connected by natural channels. The century-old gardens and grounds are open for walking at the Gene Stratton-Porter State Historic Site on the shores of Sylvan Lake. Six ACRES Land Trust properties and Merry Lea Environmental Center-Goshen College are open from dawn to dusk for hiking along mulch paths.

For something different, visit the Black Pine Animal Sanctuary near Albion to learn the stories of the tigers, cougars, wolves, bears, lions, and other exotic animals who reside in the refuge. These exotic animals were born in captivity, survived sometimes abusive conditions, were rescued and now live here “for the rest of their lives.”
